Aragonite is a form of calcium carbonate ($\text{CaCO}_3$) that shares the same chemical makeup as calcite but has a distinct crystal structure (it is a pseudomorph of calcite). Geologically, aragonite typically precipitates from hot, carbonated groundwater, while calcite forms when the water is cold.
